OPEN-AIR SCREENING OF EARLY FILMS AND VIDEOS BY JOAN JONAS:
Thursday, September 28th

EAI and Dia Center for the Arts will co-host a screening of the early film and video works of Joan Jonas at Dia's Rooftop Urban Park Project on September 28. Highlights of the evening will include the first screening in fifteen years of Jonas' 1976 film Mirage, which will be projected simultaneously with a new video piece created from 1970's off-air and performance material, and a live performance element by Jonas. The program will also include Jonas' 16 mm films Wind (1968), Veil (1971), and Songdelay (1973), and a video documentation of her 1972 performance "Organic Honey's Vertical Roll." These recently restored early works are now available from EAI.

The Jonas screening will take place on Dia's rooftop at 548 West 22nd Street on Thursday, September 28th, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

EAI AWARDED LANGLOIS FOUNDATION GRANT FOR PRESERVATION AND ARCHIVAL PROJECT

EAI was one of 37 international organizations to be awarded grants from The Daniel Langlois Foundation for Art, Science & Technology (Montreal) in 2000. The grant will be used to employ digital technologies in the conservation and archiving of EAI's collection, including the restoration of historically significant and rare media works and the preservation of documents, ephemera and other historical material from the EAI archives. As EAI enters its 30th year, this project will help to preserve the invaluable artistic and cultural legacy of EAI's collection, celebrating the history as well as the future of media art.
