Rockwell, Midnight Opera Group Experiments With Jazz, New York Times (April 1973)
In this short article the New York Times critic John Rockwell reviews a performance by the Midnight Opera Company held at the Kitchen. He describes the group as an experimental jazz ensemble with sounds that "alternate between practiced but routine new-jazz bursts of energy and more set, simple, classically oriented segments making use of the augmented musical forces."

This press release announces that the Midnight Opera Company is back in New York City and the Kitchen, to present new works mixed with the old repertoire on three March evenings. The following musicians are to perform: John Abacrombie, Sam Burtis, Joe Ferguson, Cal Hill, Butch Jones, Pete LaBarbara, Michael Tschudin and Chip White. There will be visual projections by Pablo Lights and video and electronic images by the Vasulkas.

The following musicians are participating: Sam Burtis, Larry Chaplan, Buncey Devyatkin, Dimitri Devyatkin, Wayne Dockery, Joe Ferguson, Butch Jones, Michael Tschudin, Steina Vasulka and Chip White. In addition to the music there will be a visual rear screen projection by Pablo Lights and video and electronic images by Shrihdar Bapat, the Cooks, Dimitri Devyatkin, the Vasulkas and Jane and Walter Wright.
