EAI partners with Y-3 to present a program of video works from the EAI collection on the exterior of Y-3's newly opened location in Miami's Design District. Inside the Y-3 store, in its second level event space, an indoor video program featuring the influential and provocative video works of Dara Birnbaum will be on view. On display daily from December 5th-8th, the project will feature a large format outdoor video installation showcasing a range of works from the EAI collection, from early experimentations to the most recent digital video. The program includes performance video by John Baldessari, Ursula Hodel, and Joan Jonas; a refracted musical piece by Phyllis Baldino; appropriations of popular television and music video by Dara Birnbaum and Michael Bell-Smith; shopping mall explorations by Dan Graham; meditative image processing by Shigeko Kubota; pixel fragmentations by Takeshi Murata; a video pastiche by Nam June Paik; and a Lawrence Weiner text animation. Installed on Y-3's second floor balcony, the outdoor program of works will run on an LED video wall, measuring 9'x12', from noon to 11pm. EAI and Y-3's indoor exhibition comprises an ongoing screening of video by artist Dara Birnbaum. The program traces the evolution of her strategies and themes, from appropriation to documentation and dramatization, and from mass media deconstruction to poetic and personal reflections. The works feature Birnbaum's re-edits of mainstream television, her interpretations of popular music and advertising, and her Damnation of Faust series, an allegorical trilogy. A cocktail reception will be held in celebration of the artists on Saturday, December 8th from 8pm to 10pm during the Design District's monthly art gallery event, Art & Design Miami. ___________________________________ |
