Celebrating New Media Scholarship is a continuing series that features the work of international scholars, artists and critics. The first two events have been book launch parties and readings on the occasion of the release of Reena Jana and Mark Tribe’s "New Media Art: Art in the Age of Digital Communication" and Ed Halter’s "From Sun Tzu to Xbox: War and Video Games." Jana and Tribe’s new volume situates new media art within the context of historical and contemporary artistic movements, including Pop Art, Conceptual Art, Performance Art, and Fluxus. Halter explores the concept of gaming from governmental, social, and psychological perspectives by tracing the relationship between simulation scenarios and military strategy.
