GENERAL IDEA at Migrating Forms Press Release

General Idea<br /> at Migrating Forms

EAI will partner with Migrating Forms festival to present two programs by artist collective General Idea (1969-1994).

General Idea (AA Bronson, Felix Partz and Jorge Zontal) forged a unique conceptual practice that deployed parody and irony to critique the artworld and popular media culture. In performances, installations, video, photography, prints, and editions, they explored social phenomena ranging from the production, distribution and consumption of mass media images to gay identity and the AIDS crisis.

General Idea, Program 1: Saturday, March 25, 2017 | 8:30pm
Program 1 includes Blocking and Cornucopia, two video works documenting rehearsals and archaeological findings from the collective’s Miss General Idea Pavillion project; Shut the Fuck Up, an examination of the relationship between mass media and the artist; and Double Mirror Video, an early conceptual experiment using mirrors to create an optical feedback loop.

General Idea, Program 2: Wednesday, March 29, 2017 | 9:00pm
Program 2 includes Loco, a reflection on General Idea’s muse Miss General Idea, and two video works: Pilot, which takes the form of a primetime news magazine investigating the rise of General Idea from young strivers to “famous and glamorous artists,” and Test Tube, a hybrid talk show/soap opera/infomercial.

Now in its eighth annual edition, Migrating Forms spotlights a range of moving-image work from international festivals, museums, biennials, and microcinemas in the common context of the cinema. For a complete festival listing and to purchase tickets, please visit: bam.org
