Soldiers of a Recent and Forgotten War

1981, 28 min, color, sound

A powerful study of men at war with the past and themselves, Soldiers of a Recent and Forgotten War represents the reconstructed monologues of six Vietnam War combat veterans. Jones fragments their comments through jump-cut editing; the disjunctive visuals and narratives metaphorically reflect the tension and displacement of his subjects, and the experiences that they relate. Rather than a documentary, this compelling work is a subjective portrait that captures the veterans' despair and restlessness.
