World History

1976, 17:33 min, Audio CD

To create this audio piece, Wegman asked people to talk about the history of the world. Their answers bespeak a humorous and highly subjective view of the world, revealing more about memory, egocentrism and Eurocentrism than about world history. Interwoven on two channels of audio, these responses are reconstructed by Wegman into an outrageous audio collage and a convoluted pastiche of world history that includes Egypt, the dinosaurs, Neanderthal man, Leonardo da Vinci, King Arthur, the Crusades, Marco Polo and the Ten Commandments.
