Electronic Linguistics

1977, 3:39 min, b&w, sound

In his early works, Hill explores the structural and organic relation of linguistics to electronic phenomena. He states, "Certain structural properties of video are revealed in an almost primal sense." In Electronic Linguistics, small electronic shapes on the screen, moving in a gradually accelerating rhythm, serve as visual interpretations of an electronic sound. In its construction of a language of electronic images and sound, this is a precursor to Hill's later, more complex investigations.
