Canopy

Ken Jacobs
2014, 4:41 min, color, silent, HD video

Description

One of Ken Jacobs’ eternalisms, Canopy documents a New York street corner draped with tenting and scaffolding. Jacobs’ pulsating editing contorts the depth of field within this ordinary spot, challenging the viewers’ perception of time and space and forcing them to reconsider the elements of their environments. The stroboscopic flickering and shifts in color conjures an eerie 3D effect within the frame, contorting the urban landscape into a dreamlike realm.
